Back in SF in 2005, and as part of free public programming for my interdiscinplinary art project National Psyche, I offered a screening of the fantastic documentary film: Is It Really So Strange? (2005, dir. William E Jones) which explores and celebrates the Smiths Morrissey deeply dedicated fan base of Chicanos y Chicanas living, breathing and ennuiing in East LA. Interesting read. Not difficult to pick up the patronizing tone throughout though. I remember these vibes from the indie magazines in the 90’s- If you weren’t interested in going to Creamfields you were somehow living in the past. Early example of your antagonism towards Morrissey on full display here..
