The 7” single vinyl record . The greatest art format of all time. With such diverse, differing content possible, able to enrich, excite, console you.

7"s are my favorite to DJ too. I generally only bring maybe 10 comp LPs for when I need a little break. 💙

Great post today....I am too started as a dj and amassed thousands of records, they are all stored now, archival history but I work from two boxes now as I am a "selector" using 7 inch / 45's for a section of a monthly I do. I appreciate the comment on the 3 minute mark of most 45's as I never wish to be to busy for a chat, I dj from behind a bar on section I created for djs. It is pure joy and so great to connect with friends and new faces that drop by for a tune and a pint at gman tavern. Chicago is always ready for you!!

Hi Dave - I have a 7” collection I’m getting rid of if you’d like to have a look. Some are worth a bit which I’m selling but most aren’t worth selling so they are available gratis to a good home. One man’s junk and all that…

Splendid post, Dave – how can anyone not love a 7” single? I too am an enthusiastic buyer of them, the cheaper the better. Scratch ‘n’ hiss ‘n’ pop, baby!

Welcome back. And I never realised the 12” was about quality rather than extended length.

I'm no purist - I make electronic music, use an electric toothbrush etc - but there's something about turning up to DJ with a little box of well picked 7 inches that feels really neat. Probably an a ex-mod thing.

I too started collecting records in the 70’s, and amassed a bunch of punk/new wave singles. Somewhere along the way they got left behind. During the pandemic I decided to rebuild this part of my record collection, from memory, trying to get the right sleeve/label - and in many cases the correct colour vinyl. It’s been such fun. Long live the 7” single!

I always overlook 7” singles… will need to think again! Thank you for mentioning my zines, too. Great to hear you liked them.

Something to look for in Hebden: the early Trojan pressing of Ken Boothe's "Everything I Own'. It is by miles the best cut record I have ever heard. Like a cave system dancing inside a mountain. Massive. To check you got the right one: you will not hear a xylophone on it, anywhere. You will see a Greek Hoplite on the label..
